Exelixis is seeking an Engineer I - DevSecOps in Alameda, CA to protect AI infrastructure and data by implementing and improving security practices across cloud apps and infrastructure. You will develop AI-assisted security automation, secure delivery pipelines, and agent-based security tools, while collaborating with staff, vendors, and partners.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 3 years of relevant experience, plus hands-on cloud/AI security work.

SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSEThe Engineer I - DevSecOps is responsible for protecting the organization's AI infrastructure, data, and systems from internal and external cybersecurity threats by implementing, managing, and continuously improving security practices, tools, and operations with a focus on AI, cloud applications, and infrastructure.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop AI-assisted security automation, secure software delivery pipelines, and operational DevSecOps capabilitiesDevelop software components, scripts, prompts, test cases, and configuration changes.Execute and configure AI-assisted development tools, such as coding copilots or agentic coding tools.Assist with and provide cyber expertise to internal staff, vendors, and partners on security practices and issues.Develop, integrate, and maintain prompts, basic agent workflows, retrieval-assisted use cases, and API integrations to ensure security controls and observability.Write and execute unit, integration, security, and pipeline tests; troubleshoot failures, remediate defects, and improve automated validation to ensure secure, reliable behavior.Maintain clear documentation, including setup notes, design summaries, prompt/spec notes, user instructions, and operational runbooks.Actively contribute to and facilitate code reviews, demos, testing sessions, backlog discussions, and team learning activities.Performs other duties as assignedComplies with all policies and standardsSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNo supervisory responsibilities.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS & ABILITIESEducationBachelor's degree in related discipline and 3 years of relevant experience; orEquivalent combination of education and experience.ExperienceExperience of software engineering, data science, automation, or related technical workExperience with cloud, AI systems, and application security.Experience administering or building IT systemsExperience working in Agile environments and using ticketing systems (e.g., JIRA, JSM).Hands-on experience developing or deploying security AI agents on at least one major cloud AI platform, with strong preference for Amazon Bedrock AgentCore (Runtime, Identity, Gateway, Memory, or Observability components)Understanding of agentic identity concepts – how non-human/agent identities differ from human identities, and how to scope authorization for autonomous systemsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesRequired:Foundational programming ability in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or a similar language, demonstrated through coursework or projects.General understanding of software development fundamentals, including data structures, APIs, Git, debugging, testing, and documentation.Introductory knowledge of AI, machine learning, generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, or data science concepts through coursework, projects, or self-directed learning.Ability to learn and apply approved AI-assisted development tools responsibly, with review and coaching from senior team members.Ability to quickly acquire new knowledge, apply critical thinking, maintain attention to detail, and ask insightful questions to resolve uncertainty in requirements or technical approaches.Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain work, document decisions, and collaborate with technical and non-technical teammates.Ability to apply principles of responsible AI, data privacy, information security, and ethical technology practices in day-to-day work.Knowledge of general IT applications and infrastructure.Knowledge of IAC, SDLC, Ci/Cd pipelines.General understanding of Information Security principles.Travel Requirements0% No Travel Required#LI-EZ1Location: Alameda, CA Range for this position: $144,000 - $182,000 The base pay offered will take into account job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
