Job summary

City of San Antonio is seeking a professional engineer to supervise the Engineering section, overseeing design, construction, and maintenance of major public works projects. The role leads a team and ensures technical accuracy and compliance with city standards.

The position requires a Bachelor's in Engineering, a Texas PE license (or reciprocal with six months to obtain), and 4 years of engineering experience. Office-based at City Tower, with standard work hours.

Qualifications

• Reviews design plans, project specifications, and cost estimates; attends review meetings; and identifies and solves design problems.
• Approves plans and specifications for construction contracts.
• Advises other City departments on matters related to technical engineering issues.
• Assists with budget preparation.
• Reviews bid packages prepared by consultants.
• Attends pre-bid conferences; analyzes bid results; makes recommendations on accepting/rejecting bids.
• Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing professionalwork supervising the activities of an Engineering section or division.Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. Exercisesdirect supervision over assigned staff.

7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Essential Job Functions

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college, university, or engineering school approved by a State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
• Four (4) years' experience in engineering.
• No substitution for education allowed.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas ORLicensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) from another state with the ability to obtain a P.E. license in the State of Texas within 6 months of employment.
• Valid Class 'C' Texas driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the design & construction of stormwater or drainage projects.
• Experience working with or for public agencies and familiarity with transportation capital programs, permitting processes, and interdepartmental coordination.
• Experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to advance shared transportation, safety, and mobility goals.
• Ability to translate technical engineering and safety concepts into clear, accessible language for non-technical audiences, stakeholders, and community members.
