Intertek, a world leader in quality and safety, seeks an Engineer-HAZLOC to join the Electrical team in Plano, Texas. The role focuses on evaluating product safety for hazardous (classified) locations and may require up to 75% travel.

You will read codes, set up and test EUTs, document results, perform design reviews, and communicate with clients. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required; new grads are welcome. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a valid driver's license are expected.

  • Fundamentals of engineering certificate / EIT preferred.
  • Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT.
  • Validate project scope and sample applicability.
  • Set up and operate EUT; perform simple repairs as needed.
  • Perform testing of products per standards.
  • Conduct preliminary design reviews (PDR) on/off site.

What are we looking for?

TheEngineer is responsible for evaluation of product safety pertaining Hazardous (Classified) Locations This position can require travel at 70% of the time.

What you’ll do:


  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test).

  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.

  • Set up and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.

  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards.

  • Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.

  • Develop, set up, and follow established test plans.

  • Compile test results during construction review and testing. Compile data and product description and type final report using established report shell. Submit report to reviewer for final approval.

  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing.

  • Provide on-going support to clients as needed.

  • Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.

  • Perform other work as required.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • No experience required - new grads considered

  • Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools

  • Microsoft Office expertise

  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license and clean driving record

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Must be self‑motivated and able to work independently in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters

  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate, up to 75%

  • Physical dexterity/mobility to travel via car, airplane and to perform all functions inherent to the position


Requirements & Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering

  • Fundamentals of engineering certificate / EIT

  • Prior project management experience

  • Knowledge of Class/ Division scheme, NEC Article 500, 60079 series of standards, various Ex protections

  • Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian and other international product safety standards; i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC
