Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. We are a dynamic team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required! As part of a hardworking team, you will work with a variety of multi-disciplined engineers to design test equipment, tooling, ground support equipment (GSE), and other hardware for various spaceflight systems. You will create CAD models of tools and equipment, create drawings of parts and assemblies, create model/assembly drawings of test configurations, and facilitate proper format and file management in the Windchill life cycle application. You will also manage and lead the overall test tooling configuration and associated GSE design/build efforts for assigned test campaigns. Please note: This is a 12-month fixed term role with potential of extension up to 2 years.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design, create and modify 3D models and drawings of test equipment, fixtures, GSE, tooling, and facilities.
  • Create and modify test configuration assemblies and develop associated BOMs and drawings.
  • Create/split conceptual structural models into components, joints, and assemblies.
  • Incorporate drafting standards and standard drawing notes based on company, program, and industry standards.
  • Perform model and drawing check activities during release reviews.
  • Assist in the development of requirements, statements of work, and technical oversight of GSE vendors.
  • Provide technical recommendations on tooling and equipment design.
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule and technical status as needed.
  • Support test engineers in test planning and address questions pertaining to the test setup and load applications for all test load cases from a fixturing perspective.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 5-8 years of experience developing models/assemblies and creating drawings.
  • Experience designing vibration fixtures and performing modal analysis.
  • Experience designing fixture with high pressures, and wide temperature ranges.
  • Experience with automotive, aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle GSE, fixtures, tooling and/or structures.
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using Creo Parametric / ProE software and Windchill or equivalent.
  • Experience creating assembly and installation models and drawings.
  • Familiarity with mechanical joint and weldment design and component integration.
  • Proficient in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience in drawing generation, checking, and life cycle/release processes.
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies and associated drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage complicated assemblies as well as coordinate design and assembly details across multiple stakeholders.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with test and/or test fixtures/tooling assemblies.
  • Experience supporting large scale GSE assembly/integration.
