Job summary

AEP Service Corporation in Indiana seeks an Engineer Associate for Transmission Metering to design, install and commission metering systems for substations and large customers. This role ensures safe, effective, and economical project execution and may include on-site troubleshooting.

You will lead, train and guide junior staff, coordinate project activities, and support cost forecasting using CPM/PERT and flow charts. A strong engineering foundation and FE preparation are preferred.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent with ABET pathway)
  • Fundamentals of Engineering exam encouraged/preparing for PE licensure
  • Experience in metering systems design/installation/commissioning preferred

Job Summary

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.

What You'll Do:

Technical Expertise: Demonstrates intermediate-level knowledge and proficiency in applying theoretical and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and conduct in-depth analyses. Effectively breaks down complex issues into manageable components and performs the necessary analyses for each step. Understands the interrelationships between systems and components and analyzes and recommends improvements to business processes. Design, installation and commissioning of metering systems for substations, as well as large customers. May be called upon for on-site troubleshooting and maintenance.

Leadership and Guidance: Coordinates the activities of team members within the workgroup or department to ensure the completion of routine tasks. Executes engineering functions with minimal supervision from senior staff. Adheres to company policies, standards, and regulatory requirements while providing training and guidance to junior employees.

Planning & Organizational Skills: Facilitates the collection of inputs needed for cost forecasting related to routine projects and improvements. Employs scheduling techniques (such as CPM, PERT, and flow charts) for budgeting and planning purposes. Takes proactive measures when project objectives are not being met. Plan and coordinate major metering projects, provide engineering support and training for assigned AEP operating companies.

Problem Solving & Initiative: Identifies and addresses routine problems, often requiring additional clarification before analysis begins. Recognizes complex issues that exceed standard routines and actively seeks opportunities for innovation and improvement. Develop metering programs and perform lab tests and analysis.

Communication: Develops, reviews, and presents technical reports, including improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses, in a clear, concise, and effective manner.

Decision Making: Makes decisions within established policies and procedures, impacting team operations. Recognizes potential risks and demonstrates the ability to draw logical conclusions based on available information.

Business Awareness & Characteristics: Understands the organizational structure and specific responsibilities of their unit within the company. Familiar with the budgeting and approval processes, and proficient in utilizing economic analysis techniques for problem-solving. Develops knowledge of utility regulations and financing.

What You Will Need:

Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred. Acceptable alternative is: A bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited bachelor's program. *ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Compensation Grade: SP20-006 Compensation Range: $74,551.00 - $109,543.00
