Overview
WD builds the infrastructure behind the AI‑driven data economy, delivering the storage systems that power hyperscale data centers, cloud platforms and enterprise infrastructure worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Provide electronics support to firmware, manufacturing and customer‑facing teams for all HDD products.
- Collaborate with firmware development teams to ensure new hardware features are utilized correctly and help devise firmware solutions for hardware use cases.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to resolve electronic issues promptly, maintaining yield, quality and shipment schedules.
- Work with FAE and WWFA teams to address customer issues, performing data mining of customer data for failure trends.
- Apply methodical problem‑solving processes, using debug tools and techniques to independently solve complex problems.
- Maintain and own the tools utilized in your area of expertise, providing status updates with clear, concise summaries of complex problems.
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
- Experience with failure mode analysis and tools such as Blink Codes, error logs, bus traces, firmware event trace logging (ETL), and debug PCBA design.
- Knowledge of high‑speed PCB signal guidelines and the ability to identify potential signal integrity problems when reviewing schematics.
- Proficiency in hardware debugging using oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, bus analyzers, hardware embedded trace, test muxes, GHS probes and serial debuggers.
- System‑level knowledge of HDD with an understanding of both firmware and hardware.
Skills
- Programming experience in C++ and ability to modify code for design‑of‑experiments.
- Ability to develop and maintain test scripts written in TCL and Python.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, including practical knowledge of A3 and 8D methodologies.
- Effective communication, especially the ability to collaborate across engineering organizations, geographies and cultures, and to provide clear, concise summaries of complex problems.

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay position within the salary range may be based on education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, geographic location, shift and business needs.
- Salaries are determined for positions in California, Colorado, New York, or remote roles that can be performed in those states; the range may be modified over time.
- Non‑exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay per company policy and applicable laws; shift differential pay may apply.
- Eligibility for bonuses under the Short Term Incentive Plan (STI) or Sales Incentive Plan (SIP) and participation in the Long‑Term Incentive program with RSUs or cash equivalents, subject to role‑specific eligibility.
