Job summary

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, seeks an Engineer - Electrical Safety in Plano, Texas to test and evaluate products against safety standards, write reports, and engage with clients. Under supervision, you may conduct on/off-site evaluations to determine compliance with applicable standards.

75% travel is possible. The role requires a Bachelor's in Engineering, strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, and willingness to travel to meet project

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • No experience required; new grads considered.
  • Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and hand tools.
  • Microsoft Office expertise.
  • Valid unrestricted driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 75%.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT.
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Set up and operate EUT; perform simple repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards.
  • Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
  • Develop, set up, and follow established test plans.
  • Compile test results and final report using established report shell; submit for final approval.
  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management.
  • Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
  • Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.
  • Perform other work as required.

What are we looking for?

The Engineer - Electrical Safety is responsible for performing testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canadian and other international product safety standards; writing reports; and communicating with clients. Under the guidance of a more senior Engineer, may also conduct on and off-site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s). This position has the potential for 75% travel.

What you’ll do:
  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test).
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Set up and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards.
  • Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.

  • Compile test results during construction review and testing. Compile data and product description and type final report using established report shell. Submit report to reviewer for final approval.
  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing.
  • Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
  • Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.
  • Perform other work as required.

  • Physical dexterity/mobility to travel via car, airplane and to perform all functions inherent to the position
Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Fundamentals of engineering certificate / EIT
  • Prior project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian and other international product safety standards; i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC
  • Experience working with control panels, switchgears, switchboards, transformers, industrial skids, and other industrial equipment
