Job summary

Veolia in North America seeks an Electrical Engineer to support site operations, drive safety, and lead process and mechanical improvements. You will work with operators, technicians and external partners to ensure high-quality output at lower cost while maintaining reliability and environmental compliance.

The role spans design, startup and monitoring of new or improved processes, with travel to project sites and collaboration across SES sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Electromechanical engineering.
• 3–5 years in industrial or commercial power generation systems.
• Experience with diesel/natural gas generators, switchgear, ATS, and generator controls.
• SCADA systems, industrial networking, and remote monitoring.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, PLC logic, and specs.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and communication skills.

Job Description

This position is an integrated role combining process and mechanical skills, experience to support day to day plant operations and performance vs operating goals, ensuring timely and effective response to plant issues including engaging with appropriate resources. The Engineer in this position will provide technical expertise and direct engagement in support of plant operations at the site. The role will be resident at the site and a key team member of the site team while also being integrated and part of the Acid Technology Center which provides support to all of the Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) sites. The Engineer- Electrical will lead safety, process, mechanical, and product quality improvements with emphasis on implementing systems to safely obtain consistent output of high quality products at a lower cost while achieving high reliability. The role is responsible for developing and implementing process improvement programs and best practices (safety, capacity, uptime, quality, yield, cost/capital, energy reduction, and waste minimization), as well as supporting Process Safety Management (PSM) and environmental compliance. The Engineer will participate as a team member for design, implementation, startup and monitoring of new or improved processes in the existing production facility, including working with external customers, contractors, environmental, safety and other technical support. Networking and leveraging capabilities with sister facilities and resources as well as occasional support within the SES circuit is also the responsibility of this role. The role reports to the Process Effectiveness or Asset Effectiveness Director within the Acid Technology center.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Demonstrated strengths in getting results, meeting commitments, problem solving and continuous improvement directly and through others.
• Documented leadership, implementation and development of process, mechanical and/ or capital improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with or lead diverse teams with the capability to influence operators and mechanics, colleagues, site management and business leadership in support of improved business results through significant initiatives as well as complex process and mechanical improvement strategies.
• Monitor and evaluate data using statistical methodology and use technical expertise to make appropriate recommendations for improvement.
• Technical support for: improvement projects, day to day operations & maintenance, troubleshooting process & mechanical issues, capital projects and shutdowns.
• Lead and implement various projects such as improvement, reliability, efficiency etc.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment including working in a chemical process environment; outdoors, indoors, elevated heights and confined spaces.
• Site Process Safety Management resource.

Work Environment

• Work will generally be in office environments.
• Occasional work in active plant environments will be required (which may require the wearing of appropriate PPE, standing and/or walking for long periods of time, and/or carrying/lifting of computer and automation equipment).

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,Electromechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience with industrial or commercial power generation systems.
• Experience with diesel and/or natural gas generators, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and generator controls.
• Experience with SCADA systems, industrial networking, and remote monitoring applications.
• Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC, or Ethernet/IP.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, PLC logic, and technical specifications.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to travel to customer or project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with generator manufacturers such as Jenbacher and Wartsila.
• Experience with PLC programming and SCADA platforms such as Ignitions.
• Wonderware, AVEVA, Logix5000, FactoryTalk View, or VTScada.
• Experience using power system analysis software such as ETAP or SKM.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems (ICS).
• Knowledge of NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and applicable industry standards.
