Job summary

First Quantum Minerals is seeking a Cyclone Plant Engineer to maintain daily plant operations, assist in ongoing projects, and drive performance improvements for the Sand Cyclone Plant. The role requires initiative, problem solving, and strong communication within a multi-disciplinary team.

You will be responsible for data collection, report generation, and adherence to HSE standards. A Bachelor’s degree in industrial or process engineering is required, with hands-on plant experience preferred.

The Cyclone Plant Engineer reports to the Cyclone Plant Operations Coordinator. The engineer will be responsible for completing all tasks required to maintain the plant's daily operations, assisting ongoing projects, conducting research to increase the performance of the Sand cyclone plant, and writing reports. The engineer should be able to follow instructions but also take the initiative and come up with original ideas.

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, process engineering, or similar.
  • Two years of experience in plant operations or a similar job.
  • High attention to detail and strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel, and ability to quickly learn new software
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • A growth mind set and willingness to accept criticism.
  • Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
  • Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Must be familiar with physical calculation, basic chemistry, layout reading.
  • Ability to manage time appropriately.
  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance within the area personnel.
  • Perform regular checks of the operating section equipment to ensure safe and optimal working conditions.
  • Maintain the reportability of Sand Cyclone Plant
  • Performs rounds of assigned TMF perimeter area to ensure proper conditions and operation of the seepage collection system, decant tunnel discharge, tailings deposition infrastructure, and sand dam.
  • Taking ownership of the section, be enthusiastic and proactive in view of driving it to achieve production targets while maintaining safe working conditions.
  • Participate in production planning in the short and long term.
  • Participate in the operations of lockout and tag-out equipment during the partial or total shutdowns.
  • Use PI System to report and analyse operations anomalies.
  • Apply the best practices needed to prevent significant environmental impact.
  • Raise Technical to the attention of TMF Operations.
  • Perform the collection of data and generate proper reports to evaluate the Cyclone plant efficiency.
