Job summary

Target is seeking an Engineer to deliver robust software within the Cloud & Compute organization. You will develop scalable components, learn architectural designs, and balance speed with quality in a hybrid work model.

The role requires a 4-year degree or equivalent and 1+ years of software development experience, with proficiency in Java/Go/Python/TypeScript/JavaScript and cloud/container fundamentals.

The pay range is $75,400.00 - $135,700.00
Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications. As an Engineer, you serve as a technical specialist in delivering the engineering that powers the product. You develop keen insight into the technical architecture and design to deliver robust and scalable software components. You constantly demonstrate the depth of your expertise by solving engineering problems. You are passionate about the quality of software and balance between speed of delivering new features and robustness of the software components you implement. You can handle operational issues with little or no oversight. You actively review code to ensure the software quality and functional accuracy is maintained across the team. You are keen to learn the design and architecture of the product and participate in ceremonies that can influence both.
Target’s Cloud & Compute organization builds and operates the foundational platforms that power the experiences our guests, team members, partners, and engineers rely on every day. We are looking for engineers to help design, automate, scale, and evolve the cloud-native infrastructure, reliability practices, and developer-facing capabilities behind modern retail technology. Depending on the team, you may work across Kubernetes and container platforms, compute and storage, Kafka and data movement, observability, cloud management, site reliability engineering, or the cloud console experiences that make our platforms easier and safer to use.

• 4-year degree or equivalent experience
• 1+ years of software development experience
• Demonstrates familiarity with current and emerging technologies in own scope of responsibility, and develops ability to apply these technologies
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Go, Python, TypeScript, JavaScript
• Foundational understanding of software engineering practices including data structures, debugging, testing, version control, code reviews, and writing maintainable code
• Familiarity with cloud, platform, or distributed systems concepts such as APIs, containers, Kubernetes, networking, storage, messaging/streaming, observability, or service reliability
• Ability to learn new technologies, tools, and domains quickly, and apply that learning to solve engineering problems with guidance from more senior engineers.
• Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target.
