Job Overview
The General Maintenance Technician maintains the physical structure, equipment, and interior finishes of the facility through hands‑on work. This multi‑skilled role combines responsibilities in facilities engineering, painting, and carpentry. The technician performs preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and cosmetic enhancements on HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire/life safety systems, as well as structural elements such as walls, doors, ceilings, flooring, and fixtures. All work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with local regulations.
What You Will Do
Facilities Engineering & Maintenance
- Maintain and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems.
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and respond to emergency or corrective maintenance needs.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure compliance with state, federal, and fire marshal regulations.
Carpentry & Structural Repairs
- Install, maintain, and repair walls, ceilings, floors, entry doors, fitting room hardware, drawer systems, and other fixtures.
- Perform structural assessments and repairs of laminate surfaces, flatwork, and roof drains.
- Interpret blueprints and specifications to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Painting & Surface Finishing
- Prepare and finish interior and exterior surfaces using appropriate materials such as varnish, lacquer, and latex.
- Apply tape and joint compound, repair drywall, and remove graffiti.
- Operate and maintain painting equipment, mix paints, and install wall coverings.
General Responsibilities
- Use work order systems to track and complete tasks efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow all safety protocols for hazardous materials and elevated work.
- Estimate materials and time for projects and manage inventory and supplies.
- Respond to routine and emergency service calls and assist with special projects as needed.
- Maintain regular, dependable attendance and provide on‑call availability when required.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Skills You Will Need
- Technical Expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, painting techniques, carpentry, and surface finishing.
- Problem‑Solving and troubleshooting across systems, materials, and finishes.
- Safety & Compliance Awareness including handling hazardous materials and adhering to OSHA, EPA, and fire safety codes.
- Precision & Attention to Detail in construction, repair, and cosmetic finishes.
- Time Management for prioritizing tasks and completing work independently or as part of a team.
- Communication Skills to interpret instructions, collaborate with peers, and document completed work.
- Tool & Equipment Proficiency including hand and power tools, painting gear, and maintenance equipment.
- Basic Math & Computer Literacy for estimating materials and managing digital work order systems.
Who You Are
- Candidates with a High School diploma or equivalent are encouraged to apply.
- The position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. It involves lifting at least 50 lbs., staying stationary for at least two consecutive hours, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and reaching above eye level. Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment are required.
