Job description

Overview

Lilly is a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Responsibilities
  • Provide automation support for operating areas across the site and capital projects.
  • Deliver technical leadership by mentoring the process control team, designing controls philosophy, implementing and commissioning controls.
  • Implement and coordinate process control work, including design reviews, DeltaV application software reviews, FATs, and commissioning.
  • Develop and execute the Automation Engineering Project Plan and uphold operational excellence.
  • Lead and oversee work of Site Area leads and System Integrator for functional requirements, design specifications, DCS application software, and test specifications.
  • Lead a team of automation engineers supporting commissioning and provide periodic status updates to Project Management.
  • Devis functional requirements and process control strategies for control systems in collaboration with Process Engineering.
  • Design, code and configure, test DCS and SCADA software (sequence logic, graphics, batch).
  • Tune and troubleshoot control loops and support electronic systems such as plant historians, application integration.
  • Maintain the validated state of control systems per Lilly quality standards, including validation strategies and documentation.
  • Support automation for capital projects and new product introductions, promoting automation to improve productivity, operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Develop a network of corporate contacts and leverage corporate expertise.
Qualifications
  • Minimum B.S. in Engineering and experience in Automation Engineering, preferably in Small Molecule API manufacturing.
  • Minimum 2+ years experience in biopharma engineering, operations, or manufacturing.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.
  • Knowledge of GMP, regulatory requirements, computer system validation.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Demonstrated initiative, planning, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to influence peers and business partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Additional Preferences
  • Experience in design, development, commissioning and qualification of highly automated greenfield manufacturing sites with SCADA, DCS, PLC and MES systems (e.g., DeltaV, Rockwell, Syncade).
  • Experience facilitating and driving decision‑making at an organizational level.

  • Initial location: Parkwood West, Indianapolis, Indiana.
  • Permanent location: Lilly Medicine Foundry, Lebanon, Indiana.
Compensation & Benefits

Anticipated salary range: $66,000 - $171,600.

Full‑time employees are eligible for a company bonus based on performance, and a comprehensive benefits program including 401(k), pension, vacation, medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, and wellness benefits.
