Dominion Energy's Long-Term Operations Planning team is seeking an engineer to advance outage planning, reliability analysis, and construction scheduling over a one-year horizon. You will work with the System Operations Center and EMS/TARA modeling to perform load-flow and N-1 contingency studies and integrate forecasts into planning models.
The role supports a hybrid 3-2 work schedule with potential field visits and industry events.

We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.
Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity. At this time, Dominion Energy cannot transfer or sponsor a work visa or employment authorization for this position.
The successful candidate will become an integral member of the Long-Term Operations Planning team. This team operates within the System Operations Center (SOC). The team works closely with the Strategic Operations Planning team and is dedicated to outage planning, reliability analysis, and recommendation of possible construction schedules over a timeframe ranging from one month up to one year into the future.
The transmission system is currently experiencing significant changes driven by growing demand, the integration of renewable energy sources, increased electrification, and the expansion of data centers. In response, the Long-Term Operations Planning team's primary objective is to closely analyze and study the transmission system throughout the 1 year period, incorporating different data sources into PSSE/TARA-based and EMS-based load flow and N-1 contingency analysis studies. These data sources include load forecasts, typical generation forecasts/patterns, existing transmission and generation outages, and consideration of any key project-related outages. A successful operations planning study keeps the grid safe and reliable while delivering on key projects. Additionally, one key aspect to successful outage planning studies is having an accurate model. The successful candidate will also work on initiatives supporting the development of more accurate models up to five years in the future. These models are designed to incorporate forecasts of load growth, anticipate planned changes to system topology, and align with necessary construction timelines. This role will work closely with other teams, including System Operations, SOC Outage Coordination, ET Planning, Project Management, and EMS Modeling. Prior experience in transmission planning is preferred.
