Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an experienced Construction Engineer 3- Engineer 5 to support transportation projects in Ascension Parish. Licensing in another state is acceptable if a Louisiana license will be obtained before appointment.

Responsibilities include reviewing plans and documents, coordinating with contractors and staff, and supporting project delivery, certifications, and emergency response activities as needed.

About This Job

DISTRICT 61 - UNIT 206 – ASCENSION PARISH At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. Please visit our DOTD Career Center for more information about our agency. DOTD is seeking an experienced Construction Engineer 3- Engineer 5 to support transportation projects and programs. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews. No prior licensed engineering experience is required – training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series. Position is located in Ascension Parish, and reports to the Engineer 6.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.

Note: Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

Position-Specific Details

Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as Engineer 3, 4, or 5 based on qualifications and agency needs.

Compensation

Engineer 3 – Special Entrance Rate (SER): $38.54 / $3,083.20 Bi-weekly

Engineer 4 – Special Entrance Rate (SER): $44.12 / $3,529.60 Bi-weekly

Engineer 5 – Special Entrance Rate (SER): $47.21 / $3,776.80 Bi-weekly

Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.

Appointment Type

This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); Job Appointment (temporary appointment in a classified position for a limit of four years); or by detail to special duty.
