Job summary

Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to oversee pole inspection, grounding, underground equipment maintenance, transformer inventory, and the GIS program. The role includes engineering design support, staking, and long-range planning for system improvements, working both independently and with a team.

Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with at least five years of engineering and supervisory experience, plus SC residency and a valid

Qualifications

  • Five years of engineering experience including staking, drafting, AutoCAD and ESRI.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • SC driver’s license with ≤4 points.
  • Available for on-call duty as assigned.
  • General residency requirement in SC.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on engineering design concepts and safety standards.
  • Oversee pole inspection, grounding, and underground equipment maintenance.
  • Provide GIS engineering support for development and mapping.
  • Prepare engineering reports and documentation.

Position Purpose

Responsible for oversight and direction of the pole inspection/treatment program, system grounding program, underground equipment maintenance, transformer inventory, Drone Program, MCEC's Avian Protection Program, Construction Work Plan and Long-Range Plan, staking, system improvement design, engineering analysis database, and engineering support for development, conversion, maintenance, and applications and uses of the Geographic Information System (GIS).

Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications including database, spreadsheet, and word processing
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, ESRI, and ArcFM
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Neat handwriting and drawing skills
  • Ability to prepare reports, summaries, and documentation
  • Application of mathematical functions to utility design
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to resolve problems and design solutions
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team
Essential Functions
  • Knowledge of engineering design concepts
  • Knowledge of safety and legal regulations and requirements
  • Knowledge of the electric utility distribution system
  • Knowledge of the system area
  • Knowledge of RUS specifications, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and National Electrical Code (NEC)
Desired Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Desired Job Experience
  • Five years of engineering experience to include staking, drafting, AutoCAD, and ESRI preferred
  • Supervisory experience
Other Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age
  • General residency requirement
  • Color vision for SCADA, wiring, and computerized mapping
  • South Carolina driver's license with a maximum of four (4) points
  • Available for on-call duty as assigned
