Job summary

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is seeking a skilled Broadcast Technician to join their team in Chicago. In this full-time position, you will play a vital role in the execution of daily newscasts and production by operating various studio cameras and audio equipment.

We are looking for a flexible and technically skilled Broadcast Technician to support a wide range of studio-based broadcast operations. This fulltime role plays a critical part in the smooth execution of daily newscasts and production, handling responsibilities primarily for Jib camera, spanning Steadicam, robo camera, audio support, and control room functions. The ideal candidate is a dependable team player with strong technical acumen and an eye for detail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate studio jib cameras safely and effectively, maintaining proper balance, spatial awareness, joystick control, shot composition, framing, and focus.
  • Set up, test, and run audio equipment during live and taped productions.
  • Aid engineering staff with studio setup, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting of control room and broadcast systems.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Technology, Media Production, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a television studio, broadcast operations, or control room environment.
  • Experience with Ross Dashboard, OverDrive, Caprica, and other broadcast video systems preferred.
  • Basic understanding of color correction, iris control, IP-based audio/video systems, signal flow, and streaming workflows.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, deadline-driven broadcast setting and work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt to new broadcast technologies, systems, and workflows.
  • Become a member of IBEW local 1220 television broadcast engineers’ union.
Compensation

$22.13 - $46.68 per hour - commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level
