About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Substation Protection Subject Matter Expert to support transmission capital projects and existing grid infrastructure. This role focuses on developing and maintaining protective relay settings, troubleshooting protection systems, and supporting cross-functional utility teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop protection settings for transmission line, transformer, bus, and capacitor protection schemes
- Perform coordination studies, calculations, and QA of relay settings
- Support new installations and upgrades to substation protection systems
- Troubleshoot protection issues and respond to internal engineering requests
- Maintain settings templates and documentation for compliance
- Collaborate with planning, distribution, and system performance teams
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years utility experience in protection & controls (substation protection systems)
- Strong knowledge of NERC PRC/CIP/FAC standards
- Experience with relay coordination and short-circuit analysis
- Familiar with electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relays
- Experience with tools such as Aspen OneLiner, Aspen Relay Database, CymTCC, SEL AcSELerator
