Job description

General Summary

This position is designated as safety‑sensitive. The engineer is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical systems, equipment, and building infrastructure within a hospital environment. The duties of this role involve exposure to hazardous conditions, operation of tools and equipment, work at heights, and responsibilities that directly impact patient, staff, and public safety. Impairment while performing these duties could result in serious injury, property damage, or disruption of critical building systems.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and complete scheduled maintenance of equipment.
  • Monitor all control systems, rounds, and readings throughout the scheduled shift.
  • Utilize a complete understanding of the emergency management system.
  • Complete routine scheduled maintenance.
  • Respond to all equipment failures or faults in a timely manner.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all equipment.
  • Conduct building maintenance, including lighting, bathroom repairs, painting, wall repair, ceiling tiles, grounds maintenance, and all preventative maintenance.
  • Aid the lead engineer in quarterly, semiannual, and annual inspections.
  • Report all minor and major repairs to building systems for the purpose of regular maintenance.
  • Answer all phone calls and client requests in a timely manner.
  • Update and manage all log sheets associated with building and tenant requirements.
  • Maintain all mechanical rooms in a clean, sanitary, and comfortable environment, according to stated standards.
  • Work in a fast‑paced environment while managing multiple projects/client requests at the same time.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and mechanical systems in a manner that ensures safety of patients, staff, visitors, and self.
  • Perform work that may directly impact hospital infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and emergency systems.
  • Maintain alertness and sound judgment while performing duties involving equipment, systems, and hazardous conditions.
  • Conduct oneself with honesty and integrity at all times.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of company policies and commitment to remain compliant.
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude towards team members and customers alike.
  • Skill in paying attention to detail, inspecting condition of a space, and ability to determine maintenance priorities to be completed.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum weight of 70 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, crawl, squat, and crouch as needed to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, products, and chemicals associated with cleaning.
  • Ability to receive instruction and follow directions to complete assignments.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision, in order to fulfill job requirements and expectations.
  • Ability to act in a responsible, trustworthy, and respectful manner while performing job requirements at assigned locations.
  • Ability to adapt and remain versatile to changing working environments and conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with all customers, Sprucers, and leadership team members; English proficiency required.
Education, Experience, and Certification

Must have a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.

  • Seeing: ability to inspect and maintain where needed 75%-100%.
  • Hearing: listen to changes with boiler etc. 50%-74%.
  • Standing/walking: ability to move unencumbered to perform responsibilities and use tools and equipment 50%-74%.
  • Climbing/stooping/kneeling 50%-74%.
  • Lifting/pulling/pushing: ability to lift minimum of 70 lbs. 50%-74%.
  • Fingering/grasping/feeling: manipulation of tools 50%-74%.
Working Conditions

Typically, good working conditions in controlled environments. Exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals. Required to work at varying job locations, as assigned. May be required to perform tasks outside, without controlled environments. Work may involve elevated surfaces, mechanical rooms, confined spaces, and exposure to energized or pressurized systems.
