Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Columbus, IN is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technician to support engine testing and instrumentation in test cells. The role involves performance and reliability testing, data acquisition, and analysis, plus fabrication of components and sketches from drawings.

The successful candidate will work with apprentices and other technicians, adhere to safety policies, and contribute to continuous improvement through data-driven decisions and detailed test reporting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education as listed: high school diploma or GED with related experience or an associate/bachelor in a related field.
  • Experience with test rigs, data collection, and instrumentation is preferred.
  • Must be able to read prints/drawings and fabricate components as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform performance and reliability testing on engines, components, and test cells.
  • Configure and operate data acquisition systems; analyze data and interpret results.
  • Build, tear down, and inspect engines and components; document findings.
  • Create sketches for machining and fabricate piping, tubing, and brackets from drawings.
  • Install engines and instrumentation in test rigs and test cells.
  • Prepare test plans, reports, and recommendations for customers and engineers.
  • Coordinate program planning, scheduling, and tracking; participate in audits.
