Job summary

LiquidPiston in Bloomfield, CT is seeking an Engine Build Technician to join our hands-on engineering team. You will assemble, inspect, and maintain prototype and production rotary engines with precision and care.

You will read mechanical drawings, use calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, and gauges, and collaborate with engineers on iterative testing while keeping a clean, safe work space. This role requires mechanical aptitude and the ability to work physically in a workshop environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven mechanical aptitude from automotive, aerospace, machining, or similar hands-on technical fields.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and assembly documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on high-quality workmanship.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, torque wrenches, gauges, and shop equipment.
  • Experience with rotary or internal combustion engines is a plus.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks in a workshop setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform precision assembly and disassembly of prototype and production rotary engines.
  • Inspect and measure machined components using calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical issues during engine build processes.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of tools, components, and consumables.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the shop and lab areas.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and shop infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and other technicians to support design iterations and testing.
  • Document build procedures, discrepancies, and improvements for continuous process optimization.

Position Overview:
