Job summary

Town of Fairfield Parks & Recreation is seeking a Primary instructor to lead an American Sign Language program for elementary students and adults. The role requires commuting to Fairfield, CT, and delivering engaging ASL lessons on a Monday schedule.

The position is part-time, in-person, with an hourly pay rate of $30.00. Prior ASL teaching experience and ability to manage a classroom are preferred assets for success.

Qualifications

• Experience with American Sign Language (fluency or strong working knowledge preferred).
• Experience working with children in an educational, camp, or enrichment setting.
• Reliable and able to step in when needed.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead an ASL enrichment class for elementary students and 18+ adults.
• Teach basic American Sign Language signs, vocabulary, and communication skills.
• Create a supportive and engaging classroom environment.
• Manage classroom behavior in a positive and professional manner.
• Follow any provided lesson plans or activities from the primary instructor/program coordinator.
• Arrive on time and prepared to lead the class.
