Job summary

MKS Instruments is seeking an Engineering Tech for MKS Power Solutions in Rochester, NY. You will partner with Systems and Design Engineering to test, troubleshoot, and assemble RF plasma generators and related proto‑systems.

You will report to a Systems Engineering Manager and contribute to design validation and testing activities. You will use oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and RF instruments to troubleshoot PCBA problems and support various test setups.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent technician experience.
• Minimum 1+ year of related experience.
• Experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and RF instruments.
• Experience using schematics to troubleshoot PCBA problems.

Responsibilities

• Test, troubleshoot and assemble prototype RF plasma generator systems.
• Collaborate with Systems and Design Engineering on design validation.
• Perform testing from schematics and layouts to collect data.
• Conduct operational tests and fault isolation on systems and equipment.
• Assist in failure analysis at system and component levels.

Job description

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As an Engineering Tech at MKS Power Solutions, you will partner with Systems and Design Engineering to test, troubleshoot, and assemble the next generation of RF plasma generators. In this role, you will report to one of the Systems Engineering Managers.

You Will Make an Impact By:

• Supporting engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment
• Applications may include analog, digital and/or logic systems
• Working from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and troubleshooting functions
• Conducting engineering tests and detailed experimental testing to collect design data or assist in research work
• Performing operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment
• Conducting failure analysis at the system, subassembly, and component level
• Using manufacturing test, development or diagnostic equipment including but not limited to oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus which may require software skills

Skills You Bring:

• Requires an Associate degree or equivalent technician experience.
• Minimum of 1+ years of related experience
• Experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other electrical / RF instruments
• Experience using schematics to troubleshoot PCBA problems

Preferred Skills: (Optional)

• Use of computers to drive tests or collect data
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Use of LTSpice or other circuit simulation tools
• PCBA soldering / rework

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay Range: $21.73 - 36.21 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Bonus : This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS [or as applicable].
