Job summary

Big-D Mission Critical is seeking an Electrical Superintendent to oversee energy isolation and energization activities on data center projects. The role includes planning, coordination, control, and documentation of energized work with a focus on safety and minimal impact to live data halls.

The position can be based in Salt Lake City, UT or involve travel. Candidates should have extensive experience with live electrical systems, MV systems, and data center energization.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience working with live electrical systems.
• Experience authorizing or supervising energized work.
• Experience with medium-voltage systems.
• Data center energization experience preferred.
• Substation systems experience preferred.
• Power generation systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Authorize and supervise energized work execution.
• Verify readiness of SOPs and MOPs.
• Enforce procedures during live work.
• Ensure zero-energy state prior to work execution.
• Maintain switching logs and isolation tracking.
• Lead energization sequencing and generator startup.
• Coordinate with utility providers and owner operations teams.
• Review and approve MOPs and Energized Work Permits.
• Collaborate with Commissioning Authority on energization boundaries.
• Lead energy hazard pre-task planning discussions.
• Track real-time energized system status and report to leadership.
• Document all energy-related incidents or near misses.

This position can be based in Salt Lake City, UT or in a traveling role.

This position ensures the safe execution of work involving electrical systems, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, mechanical plants, and controls infrastructure, particularly in environments where energized systems may affect ongoing operations.

Es sential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)

• Controls and authorizes energized work execution
• Verifies readiness of approved SOPs and MOP
• Enforces procedures during live work
• Verify zero-energy state prior to work execution.
• Maintain detailed switching logs and isolation tracking.
• Lead energization sequencing, utility tie-ins, generator startup, UPS static bypass transitions, A/B system commissioning, mechanical equipment.
• Coordinate with utility providers and owner operations teams.
• Ensure no unplanned impact to existing live data halls.
• Review and approve Method of Procedure (MOP) and Energized Work Permits
• Partner with Commissioning Authority to validate energization boundaries.
• Confirm proper labeling and arc flash studies are in place prior to energization.
• Stop work authority for unsafe energy conditions.
• Lead energy hazard pre-task planning discussions.Track real-time status of energized systems.
• Issue daily energy status reports to project leadership and client.
• Assist in documenting all energy-related incidents or near misses.
