Source One Technical Solutions is seeking an Energy Efficiency Engineer/Auditor to support HVAC-driven energy efficiency projects across New Jersey utility programs. The role blends building system evaluation, energy auditing, and incentive program engineering.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal sales teams, external engineering partners, contractors, and utility program administrators. The role is technical, detail- oriented, and documentation heavy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience is required.
  • Experience with commercial HVAC systems.
  • Experience with energy efficiency programs or utility incentive programs.
  • Strong technical documentation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical program requirements and engineering calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct commercial building energy audits with emphasis on HVAC systems.
  • Evaluate existing mechanical systems including RTUs, boilers, chillers, and controls.
  • Document system conditions and gather data for incentive applications.
  • Identify potential equipment upgrade opportunities.
  • Structure projects to align with utility program requirements.
  • Perform savings calculations and prepare technical documentation.
  • Assist with development of incentive applications and technical workpapers.
  • Interpret program rules, TRMs, and eligibility requirements.
  • Support project development from audit through incentive approval.
  • Collaborate with sales teams, contractors, and external engineering partners.

Source One Technical Solutions is helping our client find an Energy Efficiency Auditor / Engineer to support the development of HVAC-driven energy efficiency projects across New Jersey utility programs.

This role combines building system evaluation, energy auditing, and incentive program engineering. The position plays a key role in translating building conditions into technically compliant incentive applications and supporting project development from audit through program approval.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal sales teams, external engineering partners, contractors, and utility program administrators. The role is technical, detail- oriented, and documentation heavy.

Energy Efficiency Engineer/Auditor
Location: Hybrid to Oradell, NJ (field work)

HVAC & Utility Incentive Programs (NJCEP)

$105k-$150k base salary plus uncapped bonus, incentives, and benefits (based on experience)

About our client:
  • Develops and implements energy efficiency projects for commercial and
  • multifamily buildings across New Jersey. Work focuses on leveraging utility incentive
  • programs to support upgrades to building systems—particularly HVAC equipment, controls,
  • and related infrastructure.
  • Works closely with building owners, contractors, and utility program administrators to
  • structure projects that meet technical program requirements and maximize available
  • incentives.
Core Responsibilities
  • Conduct commercial building energy audits with emphasis on HVAC systems

  • Project Development Support
  • Work with internal sales teams to develop technically viable project scopes
  • Evaluate replacement equipment options and system configurations
  • Support development of projects that optimize incentive eligibility and ROI
  • Program Documentation & Compliance
  • Prepare and review documentation required for program submissions including technical
  • calculations, workpapers, and incentive applications
  • Support responses to program administrator comments and technical reviews
  • Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Collaborate with sales teams, contractors, and external engineering partners
  • Support projects from early audit stage through incentive approval
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or related field) or equivalent in experience)
  • Experience with commercial HVAC systems
  • Experience with energy efficiency programs or utility incentive programs
  • Strong technical documentation and analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret technical program requirements and engineering calculations
Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in any of the following environments are strongly preferred:

  • Utility companies (electric or gas)
  • Energy efficiency program administrators
  • Engineering or energy consulting firms
  • ESCOs or energy services providers
  • Experience with New Jersey energy efficiency programs such as NJCEP, Pay for Performance, Direct Install, DSM programs, or Measurement & Verification (M&V) is highly desirable.

Location Requirement

Candidate must be located in New Jersey or within commuting distance. This role requires occasional site visits and collaboration with internal and external project teams. Fully remote candidates will not be considered.
