Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an Energy and Power Discipline Leader to advance the firm’s energy and power service offerings in the United States. The role requires subject-matter expertise in electrification, EV infrastructure, distributed energy resources, and microgrids to shape strategy and project delivery.

You will lead cross-functional teams, mentor staff, and present technical insights to clients and internal stakeholders, driving growth in electrification initiatives and grid modernization

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or related discipline).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or able to obtain.
• 12 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel required; frequency depends on duties.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of analysis, evaluation, design, and implementation approaches for electrification projects.
• Provide electrification and renewable energy advisory and design support, including financial planning and market trend analysis.
• Educate internal leaders on new policies and funding opportunities for electrification.
• Conduct financial modeling, cost‑benefit analyses, and incentive evaluation.
• Mentor technical staff and collaborate with researchers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Lead webinars and technical presentations to promote discipline goals.

Job Description

The Infrastructure Services Group is seeking an Energy and Power Discipline Leader to support the growth of CDM Smith’s energy and power service offerings. This role requires subject‑matter expertise and thought leadership in electrical resiliency and redundancy, electrification, electric vehicles/fleet, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, distributed energy resources, microgrids, battery technologies, and renewable energy technologies. The candidate will help federal, state, regional, and local clients define and execute project opportunities, develop concepts, strategy, and tactical processes, and design and implement electrification integration into evolving grid operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and direct the development of analysis, evaluation, design, and implementation approaches for electric vehicle fleet adoption.
• Provide electrification and renewable energy advisory and design support, including business modeling, financial planning, operations planning, program development, and market trend analysis.
• Educate internal leaders and teams on new policies and funding opportunities for electrification.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis, including financial modeling, cost‑benefit analyses, and incentive evaluation.
• Champion R&D initiatives related to green, electrification, and renewable energy to support emerging trends and client needs.
• Lead cross‑functional, multi‑disciplinary teams in developing and implementing complex strategic efforts.
• Serve as both a seller and executor, guiding clients in new areas while maintaining a strong grasp of the mobility landscape.
• Collaborate within a matrix structure with other practices and initiatives to advance the discipline.
• Mentor technical staff at varying levels and collaborate with researchers, academics, vendors, system integrators, and other stakeholders.
• Lead webinars and provide technical presentations to promote discipline goals and initiatives.
• Support Transformative Growth Areas related to power for data centers, clean energy, decarbonization, and municipal and campus‑scale grid modernization and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related discipline; Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
• 12 years of related experience.
• Equivalent directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel required; frequency depends on duties.

Preferred Qualifications

• Industry experience in the electric vehicle sector, including fleet electrification, charging stations, and hydrogen/fuel cells.
• Passion for electric vehicles, climate mitigation, sustainability, and clean energy.
• Strong knowledge of transportation electrification policies, funding opportunities, and industry trends.
• Active involvement in relevant industry associations and committees.
• Excellent project delivery skills and experience leading complex projects with large coalitions and stakeholders.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills; public‑speaking experience.
• Ability to convey complex technical concepts to a cross‑disciplinary audience.
• Experience managing junior staff to deliver projects within expected timeframes.

Driving Requirements

An appropriate and valid driver’s license is required.

Amount Of Travel Required

10% or less.
