Unknown defense organization in the Greater Austin area is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead hands-on projects involving energetic materials from development through testing and technology transition. This role sits on an engineering leadership track with the goal of a Director-level path.

Location: Greater Austin, TX; Onsite. Salary: $150,000-$180,000. The candidate will own projects, develop test plans, and communicate with government sponsors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong engineering foundation with the ability to solve complex problems.
• Experience with energetic materials such as explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics, munitions, warheads, or related technologies.
• Defense contracting or DoD engineering experience.
• Hands-on R&D, experimental development, testing, or technology development.
• Experience developing test methods and analyzing data.
• Ability to own projects and work independently in a small team.
• Strong technical communication with customers, sponsors, engineers, and technicians.
• Interest in growing into engineering leadership.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain security approvals.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and R&D projects involving energetic materials and defense technologies.
• Own projects from concept through testing, analysis, and delivery.
• Develop test plans and experimental approaches.
• Participate in test setup, instrumentation, data collection, troubleshooting, analysis.
• Work with engineers and technicians during fabrication, assembly, and testing.
• Evaluate test results and guide technical decisions.
• Communicate with customers and government sponsors on requirements and progress.
• Support schedules, budgets, proposals, and technical documentation.
• Help transition R&D into usable technologies or products.
• Travel between office and outdoor test facility ~55 miles.
• Participate in hands-on field testing and lifting ~40 pounds.
• Take on increasing leadership responsibilities.
