Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Huntsville Hogan Branch in Madison, AL is seeking a part-time Fitness Instructor to lead group fitness classes and provide individualized instruction for members of varying ages and abilities.

You will ensure safety, deliver engaging routines, greet members professionally, and uphold the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Qualified candidates possess CPR/AED/First Aid certifications and a valid group fitness certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 years.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR, AED and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).
• Nationally recognized group fitness or personal training certification (e.g., ACE, NASM, AFAA, ACSM).
• Previous fitness class leadership or training experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead group fitness classes (e.g., strength training, cardio, yoga, cycling) or provide individual fitness instruction.
• Ensure participant safety by monitoring proper form, offering modifications, and educating on safe exercise practices.
• Greet and interact with members in a friendly, professional manner to promote a positive YMCA experience.
• Prepare class routines and maintain consistency while keeping classes fresh and engaging.
• Enforce all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to safety, health, and conduct.
• Set up and break down class equipment before and after each session.
• Respond to member questions and provide guidance on fitness-related topics.
• Maintain accurate attendance and incident reports as needed.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings, training, and continuing education.
