DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Duties

• A. Assists the physician in providing pre-procedure, procedure and post-procedure care to the patient
• B. Assists in the admission of patients to pre-procedure and post-procedure area according to established guidelines
• C. Implements appropriate nursing activities to provide safe and individualized nursing care
• D. Addresses patient needs during admission to the endoscopy room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting
• E. Identifies the patient and correct procedure according to policy and procedure and communicates with all members of the medical team
• F. Administers medication per order of physician and based on condition of patient
• G. Provides comfort, reassurance to patient and maintains patient’s privacy and dignity
• H. Explains procedures and care to the patient
• I. Monitors patient condition and maintains accurate documentation pre-procedure, during procedure, and post-procedure
• J. Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly
• K. Assists in explaining the physician’s post-procedure instructions to patient/family
• L. Performs with competence in emergency situations
• M. Post-procedure phone call to follow up with patient day after procedure
• N. Participates in Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Infection Prevention Committee projects.
