Job summary

Iowa Health Alliance (IHA) is seeking a skilled Endoscopy RN for a full-time, day shift position in Des Moines. You will provide patient care through all phases of the Endoscopy experience, from admission through discharge, ensuring safety and high-quality service.

Responsibilities include pre-procedure patient evaluation, IV skills, chart review, EMR documentation, EKG interpretation, and assisting physicians in a variety of procedures.

Qualifications

• Current or compact RN license valid in the state of Iowa.
• BLS certification within six weeks of hire.
• PALS certification within six months of hire.
• ACLS certification within six months of hire.
• Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office; familiarity with ProVation RN & MD is helpful.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and evaluate patients prior to procedures to ensure smooth patient flow.
• Organize work to enhance safety and quality of patient care.
• Proficient in IV skills.
• Review charts to ensure documentation is complete.
• Prepare for cases efficiently, anticipating patient and physician needs.
• Provide a safe environment for patients, families, physicians and staff.
• Collect and analyze data for nursing diagnoses and care plans.
• Communicate effectively with patients, staff, physicians and families.
• Maintain knowledge of equipment setup and function.
• Initiate and direct procedure rooms, clean up and turnover.
• EKG interpretation.
• Ongoing physiological assessment through all phases of Endoscopy.
• Utilize EMR for documentation.
• Actively assist physicians in endoscopy procedures.
• Take assigned call per unit policy.

Description

Provides patient care, through all phases of the Endoscopy experience; admission through discharge according to established guidelines. Provides patient care activities to patients of diverse ages.

Essential Functions

• Prepares and evaluates patients prior to the procedure in an efficient and caring manner to provide for a smooth patient flow. May include doing pre-procedure phone calls to patients and/or physician offices to obtain information.
• Demonstrates the ability to organize work and enhance the safety and quality of patient care, service and treatment.
• Proficient in IV skills.
• Review charts to ensure completeness in documentation.
• Prepares for cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of the patient and physician.
• Provides a safe environment for customers: patient, family, physicians and staff.
• Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis / plan of care.
• Communicates effectively with the patient, staff, physicians, families, and other health care team members.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function.
• Initiates and directs procedure rooms, clean up and turnover.
• EKG interpretation.
• Ongoing physiological assessment through all phases of the Endoscopy experience.
• Utilize computer software for electronic medical record documentation (EMR).
• Actively assists physicians in a large variety of endoscopy procedures.
• Takes assigned call as defined per unit policy.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

• Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
• Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified or obtained within six (6) months of hire.
• Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft office products. Helpful if familiar with ProVation RN & MD.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified or obtained within six (6) months of hire.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
• Ability to read, write and speak English language.
