Description

Responsible for rendering professional care to patients in Endoscopy Center under the direct supervision of an Endoscopy Center nurse. Attends staff meetings and in-service opportunities as appropriate.

This position is Monday-Friday, 10 hour shifts between the hours of 6:30AM-5:30PM with a rotating day off each week. Enjoy a diverse workweek with rotation through multiple areas in the ambulatory surgery center.

Compensation

Starting pay typically falls between $18.50 and $23.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. The full salary range for this position is $18.50 - $26.00 per hour, providing opportunities for growth and advancement based on performance, tenure, and skill development.

Direct Supervisor: Endoscopy Nurse Supervisor or designee

Responsibilities

Endoscopy Technicians work in several roles of the Endoscopy Center: Prep Assistant, Turn-Around Assistant, Recovery Room HUCNA and Scope Reprocessing Technician.

Prep Assistant

• Patient escort from waiting room to prep area
• Obtaining vital signs
• Assist with transport of patient to procedure area cart
• CLIA waived testing
• Room turnover - cleaning and stocking
• Any other duties as assigned within the scope of their practice

Turn-Around Assistant

• Assist with transportation of patient in and out of procedure room
• Initiate EKG and vital sign monitoring equipment set up in procedure area and recovery
• Assist physician with dilation
• Answer call light in procedure area and assist with trouble shooting equipment
• Verify pathology specimen log in and pack for shipping
• Room turnover - cleaning and stocking
• Any other duties as assigned within the scope of their practice

Recovery Room HUCNA

• Responsible for processing physicians orders
• Generate discharge paperwork
• Assist with patient care including but not limited to obtaining vital signs, repositioning, toileting, and discharge transportation.
• Removal of IV catheter as instructed by RN
• Room turnover - cleaning, stocking and ordering as necessary
• Any other duties as assigned within the scope of their practice

Scope Reprocessing Technician

Setup

• Placement and connection of appropriate scope into procedural room
• Ensure proper functioning of equipment
• Removal and storage of scope after disinfection
• Cleaning, stocking and ordering of supplies as necessary
• Any other duties as assigned within the scope of their practice

Washer

• Initial cleaning of scope at bedside
• Room turnover
• Leak testing of scope
• Manual cleaning of scope and accessory equipment at sink
• Connection of scope to Automatic Endoscopy Reprocessor (AER)
• Testing and documentation of concentration of OPA prior to each AER cycle
• Any other duties as assigned within the scope of their practice

• High school graduate with one or more years of related work experience in GI endoscopy is preferred.
• Able to read, write and communicate
• Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
• Able to maintain and comply with patient confidentiality
• Certified CNA through State of Illinois, MA, or other medical training required

Working Conditions

• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens requiring the use of universal precautions and/or personal protective equipment.
• Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e., patient body fluids and disinfectant chemicals)
• Position requires full range of motion, frequent standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to help lift, turn, roll, push, and pull equipment/patients for proper positioning during procedures and transportation from one area to the other as necessary.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
• Requires visual and hearing acuity.
