Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare in Fredericksburg, VA, is seeking an Endoscopy Assistant to provide clinical and technical support for the Endoscopy Department, including cleaning, disinfection, inspection and storage of endoscopes.

You will assist in nursing duties under supervision, transport patients, monitor safety, and help maintain supplies and turnover to keep procedures efficient.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and CPR certification; prior patient-care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work with staff and patients in a confidential and efficient manner.
  • CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures while adhering to departmental quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Leak Tests, manually cleans, performs high level disinfection, inspects, and stores endoscopes and associated equipment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Transports patients safely and effectively by wheelchair or stretcher using side rails, safety straps, and locks as appropriate.
  • Exercises caution with regards to IV lines, pumps, monitors, oxygen tanks, and other medical devices.
  • Recognizes equipment or patient problems and brings to attention of nurse, or supervisor as appropriate.
  • Transport patients, including chart and all essential paperwork to assure patient safety and comfort.
  • Maintains constant awareness of isolation precautions and adheres to protective requirements as posted outside patients’ rooms.
  • Communicates special requirements to Endoscopy Nurse immediately upon entry to the department.
  • Performs technical and limited nursing or patient care activities under the direction of a nurse to assist in providing quality patient care.
  • Observes/monitors patients for comfort, safety, mental and physical status while transporting to and from the Endoscopy Department.
  • Alerts nurse or supervisor of patient problems or concerns.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and materials to assure safety and comfort of patients.
  • Assists in procedure room turnover to facilitate efficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

This position is accountable for providing clinical and technical support for the Endoscopy Department. The Endoscopy Assistant is responsible for the manual cleaning, high level disinfection, inspection, and storage of endoscopes, in accordance with established policies, procedures and industry standards. This position will support the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment of quality service to patients, physicians, the public, and co-workers.

Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to work with staff and patients in a confidential and efficient manner.
  • Previous experience in a patient care setting preferred.
  • CPR certification required.

  • Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals
  • Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Compensation Pay Range:

Compensation Pay Range: $16.39 - $21.30
