Job summary

Ridgeview Medical Center in Minnesota is seeking an Endoscopy Technician to perform routine decontamination, reprocessing, and high level disinfection of endoscopes and accessories. The role also provides backup for scheduling exams and registering patients, supporting the operating room teams.

Responsibilities

Job description

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for performing routine activities in the decontamination, reprocessing, and high level disinfection of endoscopes and accessories. Functions as backup help for scheduling exams and registering patients, as well as other various duties to support the department operations. Responsible for providing surgical patient care and related services in the operating room under the supervision of the Gastroenterologist, Surgeon or RN circulator to ensure a safe and efficient surgical environment.

Job Functions

1. Maintains working knowledge to schedule endoscopy procedures and prepare daily patient schedule sheets.
2. Maintains and orders all supplies and forms necessary for clerical responsibilities.
3. Maintains appropriate levels of supplies in each endoscopy room.
4. Cleans and disinfects instruments and accessories after use, sets-up/turns rooms between exams.
5. Delivers specimens to lab.
6. Coordinates scopes and supplies to ensure efficient flow of scheduled cases.
7. Maintains endoscopic instrument and accessories in working order and completes maintenance requisitions for equipment repairs while maintaining repair records.
8. Provides back-up support for receptionist area.
9. Collects, prepares, and labels specimens.
10. Restocks equipment needed for specimen collection.
11. Assists physician with technical aspects of procedure including, but not limited to: biopsy, polypectomy, dilation, and tattooing/staining.
12. Assists the Gastroenterologist or Surgeon during intra operative Endoscopy procedures, including but not limited to: ERCP, EUS, Colonoscopy and EGD (this does not include opening and closing, dissecting tissue, removing tissue, harvesting grafts, transplanting tissue, administering anesthesia, implanting devices, and placing invasive lines).
13. Assists with room turnover of the Endoscopy equipment in the OR suites between endoscopic procedures.
14. Complete charges for endoscopy procedures performed in the OR, then forward to appropriate OR staff to process.
15. Maintains, orders and checks outdates of supplies used in OR cases.
16. Maintains equipment used for OR cases.
17. Assess and prepare supplies and equipment for cases under the guidance of the Gastroenterologist or Surgeon
18. Maintain skills and proficiencies through in-services and educational opportunities.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.
20. Work between Waconia and Chaska Endoscopy

Minimum Education/Work Experience

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Previous experience/basic knowledge of computers

• Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Tech, Medical Assistant, LPN, or CNA
• EMT Certification
