Job summary

CAPTEK Softgel International in Cerritos, CA, is seeking an Encapsulation Operator to set up, operate, and clean the encapsulation line, ensuring compliance with batch records and safety standards.

You will perform changeovers, monitor fill-weight and temperature, document results per GDP, and train teammates. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to cGMPs. This is a full-time on-site position in a global nutraceutical manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating softgel encapsulation equipment.
  • Familiarity with batch records and GDP documentation.
  • Ability to follow GMP/SOP procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to batch record specifications and control encapsulation.
  • Follow SOPs and production in accordance with cGMPs.
  • Adhere to HACCP and Food Safety.
  • Provide hands-on training to new encapsulation staff.
  • Document activities in logbooks per GDP.
  • Changeover encapsulation equipment; disassemble, clean, set up.
  • Perform start-up checks; monitor seam, weight, and temp.

Summary: The Encapsulation Operator is responsible for the set-up, safe operation, and cleaning of the encapsulation machine.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to batch record specifications and keep the encapsulation process in control
  • Assure applicable SOPs are followed and production is performed in accordance with cGMPs
  • Adhere to HACCP and Food Safety.
  • Foster a team environment by promoting a teamwork atmosphere with spreaders and inspection employees and covering coworkers machines during breaks
  • Provide "hands-on" training to new encapsulation employees
  • Document activities in logbooks incorporation good documentation practices
  • Changeover of Encapsulation Machine: Disassemble and clean encapsulation machines and equipment.
  • Changeover of Encapsulation Machine: Assemble and set up encapsulation machines and equipment.
  • Changeover of Encapsulation Machine: Clean tumblers, working area, and gelatin tank covers.
  • Changeover of Encapsulation Machine: Assist with pump changes.
  • Perform Encapsulation start-up activities; check seam percentage and fill material mixing
  • Perform in-process checks for fill-weight variation, temperature variation, gelatin ribbon thickness, and capsule length
  • Practice protective handling of machinery tooling of the encapsulation machine including but, not limited to die rolls, thickness gauge, thermometers, and scales/balances.
  • Document in-process checks in the Production Batch Records, and or Red Zone following Good Documentation Practices (GDPs)
  • Change filters and check for softgel leaks inside the tumblers and at the exit bin of the last tumbler as needed
  • Ensure the Spreader is completing an assigned task correctly, such as tumbler filter changes, doors are locked and the tumbler basket is up and running correctly after the filter change is complete.
  • Report out-of-specification capsules to Lead and/or Shift Supervisor
  • Wear the required personal protective equipment
  • Adhere to gowning procedures
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner
  • Notify management of abnormal activities
  • Assure MFG. equipment is in proper working order and initiates maintenance work orders when necessary
  • Suggest procedure revisions that increase efficiency in the production department

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with softgel encapsulation machines and mechanically inclined, preferred.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
