Job summary

Berkeley County EMS is seeking EMT/Advanced EMT personnel to provide primary medical care to county residents and ensure patient safety. Responsibilities include rapid assessment, emergency care, patient transport, and communication with medical control.

The role requires SC EMT/AMT certifications, vehicle operation skills, and the ability to work in high-stress conditions, with ongoing training and public education involvement.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; Associate's Degree in EMS preferred.
• National Registry Certification or ability to acquire within one year of SC licensure.
• SC EMT Certification or reciprocity; required.
• One year experience preferred.
• Valid SC driver's license with safe driving record; BLS certification.
• ICS 100/200/700 (ICS 800 preferred).

Responsibilities

• Assess illness/injury and provide emergency care within SC EMT scope.
• Perform primary and secondary patient assessments and document findings.
• Operate ambulance and communication equipment and relay information to medical control physician.
• Pack, transport and position patients using splints and back boards.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment; conduct safety inspections at shift start.
• Participate in training and relicensure activities; assist with public education.
