Job summary

Three Rivers Ambulance Authority is seeking an EMT Basic Recruit in Fort Wayne, IN. This role develops foundational skills in patient assessment, emergency response, and basic life support under guidance of experienced professionals to ensure high-quality, compassionate care for the community.

The position focuses on integrating recruits into pre-hospital emergency care, with emphasis on operating emergency equipment, communicating with patients and team members, and progressing toward full EMT

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current EMT Basic certification or eligibility for certification per Indiana state requirements.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
• Physical ability to perform the essential functions, including lifting and moving patients.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide basic life support in the field.
• Perform patient assessments including vital signs and medical history to determine actions.
• Assist in safe operation of emergency vehicles and medical equipment.
• Document patient care reports accurately and communicate with medical personnel and dispatchers.
• Participate in ongoing training and skills development to meet department standards.

About the Role:

The EMT Basic Recruit position is designed to prepare and integrate new emergency medical technicians into the dynamic environment of pre-hospital emergency care. This role focuses on developing foundational skills in patient assessment, emergency response, and basic life support under the guidance of experienced professionals. The successful candidate will learn to operate emergency medical equipment, communicate effectively with patients and team members, and respond promptly to a variety of medical emergencies. The ultimate goal is to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care while maintaining safety for both patients and responders. This position serves as a critical stepping stone toward becoming a fully certified EMT, contributing to the health and safety of the Fort Wayne community.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current certification or eligibility for certification as an EMT Basic according to Indiana state requirements.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
• Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job, including lifting and moving patients.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in emergency medical services or related healthcare field.
• CPR certification from the American Heart Association or equivalent.
• Familiarity with local geography and emergency response protocols in Fort Wayne, IN.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-pressure and fast-paced environments.
