Job summary

Rural Metro Fire Department in California seeks an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to respond to emergent and non-emergent medical requests, delivering high quality patient care in line with protocols and company policies.

The role requires a California EMT license, CPR (Health Care Provider), valid CA driver’s license, and completion of required ICS trainings; you will document assessments and treatments, operate medical equipment, and communicate with patients and partner agencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CA Driver's License.
  • Ambulance Driver’s License (DMV).
  • Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MCSA-5875 and MCSA-5876).
  • State of California EMT license.
  • CPR Card (AHA, Health Care Provider).
  • K4 driving record (less than 30 days).
  • ICS courses (IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800).

Responsibilities

  • Follows and maintains familiarity with evolving medical treatment protocols and SOPs.
  • Maintains complete documentation of patient assessment and treatment.
  • Maintains documentation of patient statistics and services rendered.
  • Uses medical equipment (gurney, airway equipment, IV, splints, bandages, medications) appropriately.
  • Communicates with patients, families, bystanders, and facility staff with empathy.

HIGHLIGHTS:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) responds to emergent and non-emergent requests for medical assistance and delivers high quality patient care, treatment, and customer service in the most expedient, professional, safe, caring, and cost effective manner possible within the prescribed scope of practice, established protocols and Company policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follows and maintains thorough familiarity with evolving medical treatment protocols, response requirements, quality assurance procedures, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and other Company policies.
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation of patient assessment and treatment.
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation of patient statistical and billing information and services rendered.
  • Appropriately uses medical equipment such as gurney, airway equipment/airway bag, IV, splints, bandages, and medications in rendering proper emergency medical treatment of patients.
  • Communicates effectively with empathy and compassion to interview patients, their family members, bystanders, other service agency members and facility staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • CA Drivers’ License
  • Ambulance Driver’s License (from DMV)
  • Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MCSA-5875andMCSA-5876)
  • State of California EMT license
  • CPR Card (American Heart Association ONLY, Health Care Provider. Hand written cards are not acceptable)
  • K4 report (Driving Record) from the DMV(less than 30 days old)

Salary Range: $19.65 - $23.18 hr. DOE (This rate applies to 12 hour shift and averages 42 hours per week).
