Spartanburg Medical Center EMS in Spartanburg, South Carolina, offers an EMT Apprentice program that is paid. You will complete a tuition-free 7-week training program and sit for the national certification exam. After successful completion, you become an EMT and may work with EMS or Ambulance Services.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Licensure/registration acquired during apprenticeship: Driver's License, AHA Basic Life Support, National Registry EMT Basic EMT certification.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Spartanburg EMS Academy training, including hospital orientation, SC Approved EMT program, BLS course, and EMT instructor-led skills assessment.
  • Orient on AM and/or PM shifts.
  • Complete the EMT Course and final exam.
  • Pass National Registry of EMTs Psychomotor and Written exams.
  • Maintain confidentiality under HIPAA and follow chain of command.
  • Attend required continuing education and support department goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About the Position

EMT Apprentice

Description

Our EMT Academy is a paid apprenticeship program. If accepted, you will complete a tuition‑free 7‑week training program and sit for the exam to obtain national certification.


Upon successful completion, you will be an EMT and start working with either of the departments below:



  • EMTs with EMS: respond to emergency calls, triage the scene, and manage patient care during transport to the Emergency Room.

  • EMTs with Ambulance Services: provide Basic to Advanced Life Support during transportation between hospital facilities.

Minimum Requirements


  • Education: High School Graduate or equivalent

  • Experience: Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently

  • License / Registration / Certifications (acquired during apprenticeship): Driver's License, AHA Basic Life Support provider certification, National Registry of EMTs Basic EMT certification.


Core Job Responsibilities


  • Successfully complete the Spartanburg EMS Academy training, including hospital orientation, South Carolina Approved EMT program, BLS training course, and one‑on‑one orientation with an EMT Instructor for skills assessment and validation.

  • Orient on AM and/or PM shifts.

  • Complete the EMT Course and final exam.

  • Take and successfully pass the National Registry of EMTs Psychomotor and Written exams.

  • Identify areas for improvement and seek ways to work on self‑defined weaknesses.

  • Remain committed to unit, department, and division goals.

  • Attend continuing education classes as assigned by leadership.

  • Adhere to proper chain of command.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information as required by HIPAA.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
