Job summary

Novant Health in Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC seeks an EMT/Ambulance Operator to transport critically ill patients between facilities with high autonomy and a skilled transport team.

You will assist with patient care as directed, perform basic vehicle maintenance, and ensure supplies meet state requirements while coordinating with the CCT crew.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum two years of experience driving emergency vehicles in emergency traffic.
• Current NC EMT Certification required; Emergency Vehicle Operations Class completed.
• Operating knowledge of emergency vehicles, radio communications, and map reading.
• Must be at least 21 years old; NC DMV driving record meets corporate insurance requirements.
• Preferred knowledge of vehicle maintenance.

• Perform basic maintenance on CCT vehicles and maintain required supplies.

Department: Critical Care Transport

Location: Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC

Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift (7am - 7pm) - Self Scheduling

This is a highly specialized team responsible for safely transporting critically ill or injured patients between healthcare facilities while providing advanced critical care throughout the transport. Rather than caring for multiple patients on a hospital unit, you'll focus your attention on one critically ill patient at a time, ensuring they remain stable while receiving the interventions they need during transport.

This role is ideal for nurses who enjoy critical care, thrive under pressure, and want to practice with a high level of autonomy while working alongside an experienced transport team.

What You'll Do

The EMT/Ambulance Operator is responsible for providing safe and timely transport of the CCT staff and family of patients being transported between facilities. They will provide basic maintenance to the CCT vehicles and maintain state required supply levels. They may assist the registered nurse/paramedic with patient care as outlined by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services.

What We're Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Experience: Minimum of two years of experience driving emergency vehicles in emergency traffic, required.
• Licensure/Certification: Current NC EMT Certification, required.
  • Completion of Emergency Vehicle Operations Class or Equivalent, required.
• Additional Skills (required): Operating knowledge of emergency vehicles equivalent to the Novant Health Critical Care Transport ambulances. Operating knowledge and skill in radio communications. Ability to access, read and interpret maps. Must have exhibited a high degree of reliability, dependability and competency in previous work performance. Must be at least 21 years of age. North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle driving record must meet requirements as set forth by corporate insurance.
• Additional Skills (preferred): Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
