GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Provide Basic Life Support, including medical evaluation, treatment and stabilization of the critically ill and injured; respond to emergency rescue situations involving potential loss of life or bodily injury; maintain control, manage and direct patient care at the scene of a pre‑hospital emergency; provide training and instruction to lesser‑trained personnel; perform other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Recognize and understand a medical emergency and make reasonable and acceptable diagnoses.
- Perform physical examinations.
- Understand and anticipate potentially life‑threatening presentations of non‑cardiac emergencies and institute appropriate emergency therapy to preserve life.
- Deal with the medical and emotional needs of any victim of acute illness or injury to reduce morbidity and mortality.
- Respond for quality patient care as established by the Company.
- Prepare and submit standardized reports of patient information and care for administration, billing, and quality purposes.
- Communicate effectively with the on‑duty physician to relate patient condition and obtain orders.
- Follow standard written protocols when a physician is unavailable.
- Transport patients and injured persons to medical facilities.
- Operate emergency vehicles safely under all conditions.
- Maintain equipment, drive county and municipal vehicles, and supervise and train other personnel.
- Obtain accurate patient data, produce patient statistics, and prepare accurate documentation for administrative purposes.
- Assist with technical rescues and removal of victims from varied terrain and hazardous environments.
- Maintain professional and objective standards of care for ill or injured persons.
- Learn new concepts, techniques, and skills related to pre‑hospital care.
- Perform routine mechanical work related to rescue and medical equipment.
- Direct the work of others and provide instruction, including oral and written directions.
- Maintain a professional attitude when representing the Company.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, hospital personnel, and the general public.
- Drive and operate emergency ambulance units.
- Authorship of narrative and numeric reports.
- Maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency medicine and continue education to retain annual certification.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The supervisor assigns shifts and establishes the scope of work. The incumbent performs work in accordance with procedures, policies, and medical orders, exercising judgment as appropriate. The duty of the incumbent includes carrying out tasks, maintaining professional conduct, and meeting performance expectations evaluated through feedback from patients, staff, and other evaluators.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess and maintain EMT / EMT‑B certification.
- CPR for the Health Care Provider certification.
- Good knowledge of street systems, addresses, and the physical layout of the area, and of the rescue and advanced life‑support equipment.
- Good ability to localize emergency patients and initiate appropriate care under pressure.
- Perform technical medical skills with high accuracy.
- Understand and effectively deal with emotional and medical needs of victims.
- Maintain a professional and objective approach to care of ill or injured persons.
- Learn new concepts and techniques and apply them in pre‑hospital care.
- Carry out a variety of mechanical tasks related to rescue equipment and maintenance of medical gear.
- Direct the work and instructions of other personnel.
- Maintain a professional attitude when representing the Company.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and agencies.
- Drive and operate emergency vehicles, including ambulances.
- Authorship of accurate narrative and numeric reports.
- Maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency medicine and complete required continuing education, training, and seminars to retain annual certification.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must be able to operate emergency medical vehicles, move equipment and extract injured persons from a wide variety of situations, including vehicular, industrial, residential accidents, and illnesses occurring anywhere in the coverage area. The role requires traversal of varied terrains, and the incumbent must be able to provide rapid assistance, safe transport, and transport victims to hospital for care.
