Forsyth County Emergency Services is hiring EMTs to provide basic medical care at the scene and during transport. EMTs drive advanced life support vehicles, deliver patient care, and operate under NC EMS guidelines with emphasis on safe driving and compassionate interaction with patients and the public.

General Statement of Duties

Forsyth County Department of Emergency Services is seeking dedicated and passionate first responder heroes to join our team as EMTs. EMTs perform skilled work in providing basic medical care to sick or injured persons.

An EMT drives an advanced life support vehicle to the scene of an emergency, provides necessary patient care to sick or injured persons, and transports persons to a medical facility. An employee in this class performs basic medical care assigned to the EMT-Basic by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services. Tact, courtesy, and firmness are required in dealing with sick or injured persons and with the general public. Work is performed according to established emergency medical procedures and techniques, but the employee must exercise considerable independent judgment in diagnosing a victim's condition and in providing basic patient care. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by the employee's ability to respond effectively to emergency situations. Overall physical demands for an EMT exceed the very heavy criteria. Person in this position must be able to lift over 120 lbs frequently.

Maintaining a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.

Minimum Education And Experience

Graduation from high school or GED supplemented by courses in emergency medical care. Certification by the NC Department of Human Resources Office of Emergency Medical Services as an EMT-Basic. Must have a valid NC driver's license.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responds to emergency calls as an ambulance driver or attendant, performs necessary rescue work, administers necessary emergency medical care, and transports persons to appropriate medical facilities.
  • Administers medications and performs medical procedures that have been approved for EMT-Basic by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Service.
  • Maintains ambulance, equipment, and supplies in proper working order.
  • Participates in a continuous training program in technical medical work and in ambulance service operation.
  • Gives talks on emergency medical services at schools.
  • Conducts tours of station as requested.
  • Cleans ambulances and stations.
  • Studies street and road patterns of the County.
  • Performs related work as necessary.
