Job summary

Westchester Medical Center seeks an Emergency Medical Technician to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a casting technician and Practice Manager/Administrator. The role serves as a liaison among the unit, staff, and public and requires interaction with patients across multiple age groups.

Qualifications include NYS EMT certification, current BLS, and a high school diploma. The EMT will perform 12 lead EKGs, monitor patients, aid in mobility, and maintain equipment and supplies

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care in assigned units/departments.
• Performs 12 lead EKG and records vital signs and data in the patient record.
• Monitors designated patients and notifies nursing staff of urgent situations.
• Assists with bandages, slings, and hypothermia blankets as directed by RN.
• Assists with fracture management/traction and splinting as needed.
• Prepares equipment and maintains supply levels.
• Cleans contaminated equipment according to guidelines.
• Aids patient transfers and mobility.
• Transports patients to ancillary departments as required.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Emergency Medical Technician is responsible for performing a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a casting technician and/or Practice Manager/Administrator. This position provides direct patient care in assigned units/departments and serves as a liaison between the unit, staff, auxiliary departments, and the public.

Responsibilities:

• Provides appropriate care for all age groups (pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics).
• Performs 12 lead EKG and obtains other clinical data including: temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, O2 saturation and records results in the patient record.
• Provides constant observation of designated patients and notifies licensed nursing personnel of situations requiring immediate attention.
• Applies bandages, slings, hypothermia blankets according to standard as directed by RN.
• Can conduct fracture management/traction, including splinting etc.
• Prepares equipment as needed.
• Properly cleans contaminated equipment according to established guidelines.
• Assists with lifting and positioning patients.
• Transports patients to ancillary departments
• Replenishes and orders supplies as needed.
• Maintains the confidentiality of all patient, hospital, or physician-related information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Successful completion of an approved New York State EMT-B or AEMT course with appropriate EMT certification. Must have current BLS.
