Job description

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Northwell Health

Base Pay Range: $29.00/hr – $31.00/hr

Responsibilities
  • Transports patients via ambulance, operating the vehicle safely and delivering patients to their destinations.
  • Provides Basic Life Support as required.
  • Logs onto the Computer Aided Dispatch System (w/FDNY) within five minutes of beginning each shift and documents any delays with RCC (Div 5) and on the vehicle checklist.
  • Checks the vehicle at the start of each tour and reports any deficiencies immediately to management.
  • Communicates via radio with dispatchers, following local radio protocol guidelines.
  • Monitors the mobile data terminal continuously and promptly reports changes in signal status, following local signal compliance guidelines.
  • Follows local and state patient‑care protocols.
  • Maintains professional relationships with employees and supervisory personnel of local emergency agencies.
  • Reports professionally and clearly to hospital staff during patient hand‑offs, providing accurate, concise information and answering questions about patient condition.
  • Completes ambulance call reports (ePCR) promptly, professionally, and legibly, and turns in the patient record copy to designated hospital staff in a timely manner.
  • Completes all other applicable forms (e.g., tour recaps, ePCRs) in a legible manner by the end of the shift.
  • Checks the read‑and‑sign book at the start of each shift, reviews, and signs each new communication.
  • Maintains and cleans the vehicle and equipment as required or directed by SIUH Management.
  • Stores and maintains the required Personal Protective Equipment (turnout gear) and helmet supplied by the hospital, reporting any damaged or missing components to EMS Management immediately.
  • Performs related duties as required.
ADA Essential Functions – Physical Demands

Requires frequent lifting, carrying, balancing of up to 125 lbs (250 lbs with assistance) up or down stairs, ramps, and inclines, and in and out of the ambulance. Requires frequent sitting, standing, occasional stooping, bending, twisting, and turning. Requires good manual dexterity and visual acuity to perform essential job functions.

Job Qualification

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License with no violations.
