City of Bondurant seeks a clinically engaged EMS Medical Director to oversee medical direction for BES, including credentialing, CQI, protocol leadership, and training support. The selected physician will work with BES leadership and ensure compliance with Iowa laws and HHS guidelines.

The role requires Iowa licensure, eligibility as EMS Medical Director, and ongoing participation in workshops and education. A formal contract will govern responsibilities, coverage, and transition planning.

Competenze

• Be a physician licensed to practice medicine in Iowa with an active license in good standing.
• Be legally eligible to serve as EMS Medical Director under Iowa Code Chapter 147A and Iowa Administrative Code 641-132.
• Have completed the Iowa HHS Medical Director workshop within the required period, or commit to completing within one year after assuming duties and every three years thereafter.
• Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary prehospital emergency care and the clinical practice of EMS providers.
• Have the judgment, availability, and organizational capacity to provide medical direction and alternate coverage.
• Maintain professional liability insurance meeting the requirements of the final contract.
• Disclose any current or pending disciplinary, license restriction, exclusion from federal programs, or other matter affecting ability to serve.

• Develop, approve, maintain, and update BES service protocols to meet Iowa HHS guidelines and BES authorization levels.
• Review state guideline changes and evidence-based practices; recommend protocol updates when appropriate.
• Assist with provider credentialing decisions and ensure clinical duties stay within scope.
• Conduct CQI activities, audits, and participate in annual leadership meetings with BES.
• Provide education, training, and clinical development support as needed.
