UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a dedicated Genetic Counselor Assistant to support our expanding genetics program. This role partners with physicians, genetic counselors, and laboratory staff to maintain smooth clinical operations and high-quality patient care.

The position emphasizes strong administrative and clinical preparation skills, familiarity with EMRs (Cerner and EPIC), meticulous data entry, and effective communication with patients and providers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Strong administrative and clinical preparation skills.
• Familiarity with EMRs Cerner and EPIC.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage patient data and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in clinical investigations in genetics by performing literature searches and recruiting patients to enroll in ongoing studies.
• Assist genetic counselors in preparing and organizing materials for genetics lectures/seminars.
• Enter patient data into computer software.
• Coordinate insurance coverage for genetic testing of patients.
• Create and upgrade patient pedigrees.
• Communicate normal test results to patients and physicians by phone and/or in writing.
• Perform administrative duties—answer phone calls, schedule appointments, administer intake forms and collect family histories.
• Alert the genetic counselor to mandatory reporting procedures when needed.
• Assist in the operation and maintenance of genetic databases.
