Job summary

Portales Municipal Schools is seeking a Speech/Language Pathologist to assess and diagnose students with speech and language impairments and to provide targeted services within the school district. The SLP will collaborate with teachers, families, and staff to identify needs, develop appropriate interventions, and monitor progress across IEP goals.

The role requires a valid NM SLP license (or ability to obtain) and a Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology or equivalent licensure.
• Valid New Mexico Speech/Language Pathologist license or other authorization.
• Knowledge of speech and language assessment, intervention, and special education procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively, maintain accurate records, and work cooperatively with students, families, and school personnel.
• Alternatives to qualifications as allowed by licensure requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and provide services to students with speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication impairments.
• Conduct screenings, evaluations, and reevaluations and determine eligibility for services.
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs with goals and objectives.
• Provide individual and group therapy and recommend strategies to improve communication skills.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to support student progress and reinforce communication skills.
• Maintain accurate records including evaluations, IEPs, progress reports, and service documentation.
• Refer students and families to community agencies when needed.
• Maintain equipment and therapy resources and ensure confidentiality and compliance with policies.
