Job summary

You will organize practices, schedule competitions, monitor academics to maintain eligibility, and collaborate with the Athletic Director. The role emphasizes safety, sportsmanship, and hands-on, experiential learning in an outdoor setting.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience as a coach or assistant coach at the middle or high school level.
• Knowledge of MHSAA rules and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
• Assesses players’ skills and assigns team positions.
• Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time for individual and team development.
• Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
• Coaches and instructs players on rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport.
• Observes players during competition and practice to determine needs for improvement.
• Monitors pupil behavior and provides supervision of athletes at all times.
• Monitors academic performance to ensure eligibility requirements are met; encourages academics.
• Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
• Conferences with parents/guardians regarding athletic performance.
