LiriCare in Lynchburg, VA is hiring a full-time Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students with visual impairments in a school district. You will deliver individualized instruction to help students travel safely and independently within schools, homes, and communities.

The role includes assessments, IEP development, progress monitoring, and collaboration with families, teachers, and the special education team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility, Special Education, Vision Studies, or a related field.
• ACVREP Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist credential.
• Eligibility to provide school-based O&M services in Virginia.
• Experience with students who have visual impairments preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration with families and school staff.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments.
• Develop individualized O&M goals and instructional plans.
• Provide direct instruction in safe travel, cane skills, and environmental concepts.
• Collaborate with teachers, families, and other members of the educational team.
• Maintain accurate service records and progress documentation.
• Travel between school sites within the district as needed.
