Job summary

Charles Evans Center, Inc. is seeking an Employment Specialist for the ACT Program in Glen Cove, NY. This full-time role focuses on helping individuals with mental health challenges obtain employment and pursue education within IPS Supported Employment.

Approximately 65% of time is spent in the community meeting participants and employers, building relationships, and coordinating with schools and employers to place clients in sustainable roles.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with participants in community settings to support employment goals.
  • Identify career interests, strengths, and employment objectives for participants.
  • Assist with job searches, applications, interviews, and employer outreach.
  • Develop relationships with local employers and connect participants to opportunities.
  • Provide job coaching and ongoing support to help individuals succeed at work.
  • Educate participants on how employment may affect benefits and connect them with resources.
  • Support exploration of education, training, and career pathways.
  • Assist with school enrollment, financial aid applications, and educational planning.
  • Coordinate with schools, disability services, and other educational supports.
  • Partner with clinical teams, vocational counselors, families, and community providers.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and service planning.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation per program requirements.

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Employment Specialist to help individuals living with mental health challenges achieve their employment and educational goals through the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Supported Employment Program.

In this highly rewarding, community-based role, you will work directly with participants, employers, schools, and community partners to help individuals find and maintain competitive employment, pursue education and training opportunities, and build greater independence and confidence.

Approximately 65% of your time will be spent in the community meeting with participants and employers.

What You'll Do

Qualifications

Required

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Rehabilitation, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health challenges.
  • Experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, case management, or human services.
  • Knowledge of community employment resources and employer engagement.
  • Familiarity with IPS Supported Employment is a plus.
