Job summary

GEO Reentry Services, LLC. is seeking an Employment Education Coordinator to utilize computer labs and classes to provide education, resources, and referrals for advancement.

You will support the Education and Employment program at the Day Reporting Center and model evidence-based practices in all interactions. You will assess, plan, and assist with job placement, education, and vocational training, while guiding probationers through documentation and employer interactions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or equivalent plus 1 year of Job Developer experience; or high school diploma plus 2 years of experience as Job Developer.
  • Knowledge of current management techniques.
  • Familiar with the correctional system and current policies.
  • Ability to conduct individual counseling sessions and facilitate small groups; interface with outside agencies.
  • Ability to write clear, concise reports in English with correct grammar.
  • Must react quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work with computers and department software.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in forming plans to achieve occupational goals and refer probationers to employers, training and community resources.
  • Provide counseling to help assess employability and skills.
  • Provide information on job opportunities, requirements, training and rehabilitation resources.
  • Offer employment services including résumé writing, mock interviews, time management, and workplace communication guidance.
  • Assist probationers with assembling documents to legally work in California (e.g., ID, Social Security Card).
  • Mentor probationers in discussing past convictions or parole status with employers.

Responsibilities
Summary

The Employment Education Coordinator is responsible for utilizing computer labs and standard educational classes to provide instruction, resources and referrals for educational and employment advancement. Provides support and serves as the primary point of contact for the Education and Employment program at the Day Reporting Center. Learns, uses and models principles of the “What Works” system through evidence‑based practices in all interactions with clients and other staff members.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • The Employment Education Coordinator conducts individual education assessments and creates treatment plans for each referred participant using principles of the “What Works” system.
  • Assists in formulating plans to achieve occupational goals and refer probationers to appropriate employers, training and educational facilities or other community agencies and organizations.
  • The Employment Education Coordinator provides counseling to assist probationers in analyzing and evaluating their skills and aptitudes for employability.
  • Provides information on occupational opportunities, job requirements, training and rehabilitation resources.
  • The Employment Education Coordinator provides employment services including résumé writing, mock interviews, time management, how to get along with others in a work environment, and how to follow instructions.
  • Assists probationers with assembling documents as necessary to legally work within California (e.g. California ID, Social Security Card, etc.).
  • The Employment Education Coordinator mentors the probationer in disclosing appropriate information regarding past convictions and/or parole status to the employer.
  • Assists probationer in locating and securing employment, college enrollment or vocational training.
  • The Employment Education Coordinator works with probationer once they have been employed to address issues that may arise after job placement.
  • Obtains verification of probationer employment.
  • The Employment Education Coordinator identifies and establishes a working relationship with local area employers to assist with the recruitment of probationer Assists other staff with general operations to meet the needs of the program.
  • May require coverage as needed at Porterville location at the Program Manager and Supervising Case Managers discretion.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from a granting institution accredited by the WASC or equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Job Developer or similar position; or shall possess a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Job Developer or similar position.
  • Knowledge of current management techniques
  • Familiar with the correctional system and current correctional policies.
  • Ability to conduct individual counseling sessions and facilitate small groups, and interface with outside agencies.
  • Ability to write clear concise reports in English using correct grammar.
  • Must be able to react quickly and appropriately in an emergency situation.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
