Job summary

Stagwell in New York City is seeking a talented employment attorney with experience advising on U.S. federal and multi-state employment law and litigation management. You will partner with the HR team and global agencies to deliver strategic legal guidance on a broad range of matters.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in Big Law or in-house settings, strong drafting and communication skills, and the ability to provide business-friendly advice across multiple jurisdictions.

Qualifications

  • J.D. with New York Bar admission.
  • 5+ years of experience in Big Law and/or in-house legal departments, advising on U.S. federal and multi-state employment law.
  • Canadian/EMEA/APAC employment law experience is a plus.
  • Outstanding writing, drafting and communication skills.
  • Strong judgment and attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate complex legal advice into business terms.
  • Ability to manage a large volume of work with prioritization.
  • Team player with integrity and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee employment law across the U.S. and other global markets as needed, advising HR leaders and business teams.
  • Provide day-to-day advice on investigations, HR practices, performance management, terminations, recruiting, compensation and benefits, wage and hour issues.
  • Deliver proactive, risk-based guidance and counsel to senior leadership and HR.
  • Advise on investigations, litigation strategy, workforce restructuring, regulatory risk, and reputational concerns.
  • Manage disputes across global markets and develop frameworks for evaluating claims.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to sustain employment law compliance across jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with legal and People Operations on equity awards and compliance.

Overview

Stagwell is seeking a talented, highly motivated, and business-oriented employment attorney with experience advising on U.S. employment law, executive contracts, and litigation management across a global organization. In this position, you will partner with Stagwell’s Human Resources team, and our dynamic agencies around the world to deliver high-quality legal advice and strategic business guidance on a broad range of employment matters with a primary focus on U.S. federal, multi-state law and Canada (Ontario).

Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Head of Global Employment Law, you’ll oversee employment law across the U.S. and other global markets as needed— advising on complex employment matters, partnering closely with HR leaders, and serving as a trusted problem-solver for business teams across the region.
  • Provide day-to-day advice on a broad range of employment issues including investigations, HR best practices, performance management, RIF and individual terminations, recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, and other strategic advice.
  • Deliver proactive, commercial, and risk-based employee relations guidance with a strong ability to advise and counsel effectively.
  • Advise senior leadership and HR on complex and high-risk matters including investigations, litigation strategy, workforce restructuring, regulatory risk, and reputational concerns.
  • Manage dispute matters across global and international markets, create a framework for evaluating legal claims proactively.
  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional partners on complex projects to sustain and enhance employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with the legal and People Operations teams to help manage equity awards and ensure compliance with applicable global, regional, and local requirements.
Qualifications
  • J.D. with New York Bar admission
  • 5+ years of combined experience in Big Law and an in-house legal department, with significant experience advising on U.S. federal and multi-state employment law matters, required
  • Experience with Canadian or EMEA or APAC employment law a plus
  • Outstanding writing, drafting and communication skills
  • Ability to use good judgment and demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver complex legal advice in a business-friendly manner
  • Must be able to balance large volume of work through effective time management and prioritization
  • A team player who acts with high integrity and professionalism
  • Inspire, trust, and earn the confidence and cooperation of your business partners
Compensation

In order to comply with equal pay and salary transparency laws in various locations, we believe the target range of base compensation in New York City for this role is $165,000 - $200,000. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and location. Total compensation includes a highly competitive bonus and equity structure. In addition to medical, dental and vision coverage, we offer a generous PTO plan, 401k program, comprehensive family planning benefits (including paid parental leave), tuition reimbursement, and pre-tax commuter benefits. Benefits/perks may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Stagwell and the location where you work.
